LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Sophomore Karly
Gray (Southampton, Mass.) recorded her third double-double
of the season Thursday night, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10
rebounds to lead Plymouth State University to a 69-61 victory over
Lyndon State College in women's collegiate basketball action at
Stannard Gymnasium.
Freshman Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H./West)
added 12 points for the Panthers, and senior Lauren
Daniels (Concord, N.H.) added 11 and sophomore
Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with nine
points. PSU stopped a three-game losing skid and now owns a
9-11 overall record, while Lyndon State is now 11-10.
Junior Jennifer White (Danville, Vt.) continued her strong play for
LSC, scoring 13 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Junior Jackie
Wetzel (Braintree, Mass.) had 12 points and junior Elizabeth Hall
(Newport, N.H.) chipped in with 10.
Neither team led by more than five points during a tight first
half, with the Hornets clinging to a 21-20 lead at halftime.
Plymouth State started to pull away in the second half, going ahead
by eight points (35-27) with 14 minutes remaining, but the Hornets
fought back and tied the game at 39-39 with 11:35 to play.
It was still a two-point game (42-40) with 8:25 remaining, when PSU
exploded with a 12-2 burst to go up by 12 points with three minutes
left. LSC pulled back to within five points with 30 seconds
remaining, but PSU held on for the eight-point win.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday in a rematch
at Rhode Island College (1:00 p.m.). The Panthers edged the
Anchorwomen in double overtime when the teams met in Plymouth last
month. Lyndon State travels to Manchester, N.H. Saturday to
face Hesser College at 1:00 p.m.
