PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Nicole
Gaudette (Colchester, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match
midway through the first half Saturday afternoon as Eastern
Connecticut State University knocked off Plymouth State University,
1-0, in the Little East Conference women's soccer opener for both
schools at Panther Field.
Gaudette's goal was a beauty, as she collected the ball in the
offensive end and fired a shot from about 30 yards out to the top
right corner of the net. The goal came with 14:37 showing on the
first half clock, and was the third of the season for Gaudette, a
two-time First Team All-LEC selection.
The Warriors nearly got on the board 10 minutes earlier, but a
strong shot by freshman Lauren Greeney (Bethel, Conn.) bounced
solidly off the crossbar.
Eastern Connecticut finished with a 13-3 advantage in shots in the
first half and 20-6 in the game, but could not get any more
goals. PSU freshman Angelina LaBroad
(Hampton, N.H.) made some nice saves in the Panther goal and
finished with nine stops. Junior Kim Church (Farmington,
Conn.) needed to make just two saves to post her third shutout of
the season.
PSU, 2-1-2 overall, returns to action with a 7:00 p.m.
non-conference match Tuesday at Worcester State. ECSU, 5-1-0
overall and winners of three straight, all by shutout, have eight
days off before hosting in-state rival Western Connecticut on
Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Nevers Field.
