Kent (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman Alicia
Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) each posted their second
double-double of the season and junior Kalie Judd
(Peabody, Mass.) added a career-high 15 points Tuesday evening as
Plymouth State University downed the University of Massachusetts
Boston, 68-56, in a Little East Conference women's basketball game
at Foley Gymnasium.
Kent scored a game-high 17 points and collected 10 rebounds and
four steals to lead the way for PSU, while Doucet contributed 12
points and 10 boards. Judd added four assists and two steals
to her scoring performance as the Panthers won their fourth
straight game, improving to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in LEC play.
The Beacons got a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds from
freshman Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, Mass.) Classmate Molly
Piette (Webster, Mass.) chipped in with nine points for UMB, which
dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in conference games.
PSU controlled the lead most of the first half, pushing the margin
to nine points (22-13) with 8:30 remaining. UMB hung around
and scored the last five points of the half to cut the deficit to
one point at the break, 33-32.
There were six lead changes in the first five minutes of the second
half as the teams went back and forth. There were eight more
lead changes over the next nine minutes until PSU took the lead for
good, 53-52, with six minutes to play.
UMB was within one point, 55-54, with just under five minutes on
the clock, but it was all Panthers from that point on. The
Panthers outscored the Beacons 13-2 the rest of the way to seal the
win. The 12-point margin was PSU's largest lead of the night.
Both teams are back in action with non-conference match-ups on
Thursday evening, PSU traveling to Johnson State (7:00) and UMB
returning home to host Bridgewater State (5:30 p.m.)
