LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - The Plymouth State University
women's soccer team padded a 1-0 halftime lead Thursday afternoon
with five unanswered tallies in the final 45 minutes of play,
including three in a five-minute span, en route to a 6-0
non-conference win over Lyndon State College.
Junior Rebecca Wilson (Clifton, Conn.) led the way
with a pair of goals as PSU won its third straight and improved to
5-2-1 overall, matching last season's win total. The Hornets
are now 6-3 overall.
Wilson came off the bench to give the Panthers the lead for good
with an unassisted goal at 19:42. Less than 10 minutes into the
second half, senior Stacy DiSabato (Manchester,
N.H./Central) upped the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted tally before
Wilson notched her second goal of the game off an assist from
senior Gianna Minervini (Point Pleasant, N.J.) at
56:36.
An unassisted goal by senior Lauren Lavery
(Nashua, N.H.) at the 58:43 mark extended PSU's advantage to 4-0
and sophomore Eliza Roy-Webb (Durham, N.H./Oyster
River) sent home the fifth PSU goal 11 minutes later off
Minervini's second assist. Freshman Cassie
Barnard (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) scored off a pass
from sophomore Katherine Goller (Williston, Vt.)
in the last eight minutes to close out the scoring.
Plymouth State goalkeepers Angelina LaBroad
(Hampton, N.H.) and Sarah Pomeroy (Lakeville,
Mass.) combined to make three saves for the shutout while the LSC
tandem of Samantha Smith and Natalia Shams turned aside 13 shots.
PSU outshot Lyndon State by a margin of 36-4.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a visit
to Western Connecticut State University for a 6:00 p.m.
kick-off. Lyndon State is home again on Sunday, hosting
Johnson State College at 2:00 p.m.
