BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Seniors Ashley Hersey
(Newburyport, Mass.) and Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, Mass.) each
tallied a goal and two assists Tuesday afternoon to lead the
Bridgewater State College women's soccer team to a 4-3 comeback win
over visiting Plymouth State University at Swenson Field.
Plymouth State overcame a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals
in an eight-minute span late in the first half, including two by
junior Rebecca Wilson (Clinton, Conn.)
(right), but the Bears tallied the only two goals of the
second half to pull out the win. Bridgewater State improves to
6-6-2, while PSU State falls to 5-7-2.
Trailing 3-2 at the intermission, Hersey scored her second goal of
the season in the 53rd minute when she knocked in a Wisocky shot
that was trickling towards the goal line. Wisocky then netted
the game-winner in the 77th minute off a corner kick. The
corner attempt was knocked away by the Plymouth keeper, but the BSC
senior midfielder jumped on the loose ball and volleyed a shot
under the crossbar for her team-leading fifth goal of 2009.
Bridgewater got off to a fast start jumping out to a 2-0 lead on
first half goals from senior Christine Soucy (Rockland, Mass.) and
junior Amanda Vigneault (Ludlow, Mass). That lead quickly
evaporated as Wilson notched her team-leading 10th and 11th goals
of the season for PSU to tie the game, and sophomore Sarah
Pandiscio (Simsbury, Conn.) put the Panthers ahead with
her third marker of the year.
Junior goaltender Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.) turned aside
seven shots to record her fifth win of the season for the Bears,
who held a 21-14 shot advantage as well as an 8-2 edge in corner
kicks. Sophomore Angelina LaBroad (Hampton,
N.H.) made seven saves in the loss for the Panthers.
Both teams return to conference action on Saturday as Bridgewater
State hosts MASCAC foe Framingham State College Saturday at noon
and PSU returns home to host Little East Conference rival UMass
Boston at 1:00 p.m.
