PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Amanda
Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) posted a double-double with
a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday evening as Plymouth
State University defeated Castleton State College, 67-43, in
non-conference women's basketball at Foley Gymnasium.
PSU remained undefeated (4-0) on the young season, while Castleton
had its record evened at 2-2.
Kania made three three-pointers in the first minute and a half of
the game as PSU took a 9-0 lead. She made 5-of-7 from
three-point range in the first half and finished with 19 points as
the Panthers built a 37-21 margin at the break. Kania
finished 8-of-13 shooting overall in the game, 5-of-8 from long
range.
Senior Laura Kent (Bellingham, Mass.) also
contributed 11 points for the Panthers, and sophomore
Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) and
seniors Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) and
Gretchen Fritch (South Boston, Mass.) tallied
seven points apiece.
Freshman Tarryn Bolognani (Whittingham, Vt.) led the visitors with
16 points, converting 9-of-11 from the free throw line. She
was the only Spartan to reach double figures in scoring as junior
Megan Johnson (Rutland, Vt.) contributed nine points and a
team-high eight rebounds.
PSU actually led 11-0 before the Spartans got on the board.
The Panthers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the first
half and took a 37-21 advantage into the locker room.
Castleton got to within 12 points early in the second half (37-25),
but PSU went on a 12-4 run to get the lead up to 20 points, and the
Panthers coasted home the rest of the way.
Both teams are back in action with in-state contests next Tuesday,
Dec. 1, as PSU visits Colby-Sawyer College (7:00 p.m.) and
Castleton travels to Middlebury College (5:30 p.m.)
