PSU Women's Hoop knocks off Salem State

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) and junior Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) combined for 43 points Thursday evening as the Plymouth State University women's basketball team remained undefeated on the season with an 80-64 victory over Salem State College in a non-conference game at Foley Gymnasium.

            Plymouth State took an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and never looked back, running its season-opening winning streak to six games.  The Panthers got the lead up to 17 points (21-4) eight minutes into the game, extended it to a game-high 23 points by halftime (46-23), and never let the Vikings get closer than 11 points in the second half.

            Doucet made 8-of-15 shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, to finish with a game-high 22 points along with seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Kania converted 8-of-14 attempts from the floor, also including a pair of treys, to finish with 21 points, along with four rebounds and a team-high six assists.

            Also making solid contributions for the Panthers were senior Katie Sunderland (Londonderry, N.H.), who made 7-of-10 shots for a career-high 16 points and six rebounds, and senior Laura Kent (Bellingham, Mass.), who added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

            The Vikings (2-3) were led by freshman Whitney Wilson (Lowell, Mass.), who came off the bench to score 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting.  Twin sister Brianna Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) chipped in with 13 points, and seniors Jakoya Wilkins (Dorchester, Mass.) and Kerry Stokes (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Amy Barry (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) added nine points apiece.

            Plymouth State shot nearly 53 percent from the field (30-of-57) while holding the Vikings under 30 percent in the shooting department (20-of-67).

            PSU opens Little East Conference play this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Foley Gymnasium against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.  Salem State is back in action Monday at 6:00 pm. with a non-conference tilt at Babson.
