Box Score Saltalamacchia and Laliberte score goals for
Panthers
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Plymouth State
University women's soccer team won its second straight Little
East Conference game Saturday afternoon, defeating the University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 2-0, at the UMD Athletic Complex.
The Panthers got goals from a pair of junior transfers,
Sammi Jo Saltalamacchia (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane)
and Sam Laliberte (Concord, N.H.), to secure the
win. PSU improved to 6-8 overall while moving into a tie for
fourth place in the LEC with a 2-3 mark. UMD dipped to 3-12
and 0-5.
Plymouth State was first to put points on the scoreboard with just
under 25 minutes left in the first half. Saltalamacchia gathered a
rebound following a saved shot and fired the second chance
opportunity past Corsair senior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson,
Mass.). The Corsairs maintained possession a significant amount of
time but failed to even the score going into halftime.
Laliberte put the game out of reach with 18:33 remaining in the
contest when she scored unassisted. UMD unleashed an onslaught of
shots on goal during the final period but none made it past
Panthers junior goalkeeper Angelina LaBroad
(Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet HS), locking up the 2-0 win for Plymouth
State.
The Corsairs outshot the Panthers, 22-11. Braga made six saves for
UMD while LaBroad made 11 for Plymouth State.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next Saturday when it hosts
Eastern Connecticut. The Panthers will host Bridgewater State
Tuesday in a non-conference affair (6:00 p.m.).
