Box Score Panthers' scoring woes continue
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Western Connecticut
State University women's soccer team scored five goals within a
13-minute span of the first half on Saturday afternoon and went on
to defeat Plymouth State University, 5-0, in a Little East
Conference contest at Panther Field.
Senior Jennifer Duran (Uncasville, Conn.) continued her outstanding
play by scoring the game's first goal in the 22nd minute. She
collected a loose ball in the box after her younger sister Jillian
Duran (Uncasville, Conn.) pushed the pass forward. It was Jen's
fifth goal in the last three games.
The Colonials, 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Little East, went up 2-0
at the 23:54 mark when Tracy Sales (Cumberland, R.I.) scored her
fifth goal of the season off a direct kick. Senior Lauren
Matthews (Monroe, Conn.) tallied her fourth and fifth goals of the
season in the 28th and 32nd minutes; the second was set up on a
crossing pass from Amanda Kelley (Santa Clarita, Calif).
Kelley tacked on WestConn's fifth goal and her second of the
season, 50 seconds before intermission. Nicole Sieber (Newtown,
Conn.) was credited with the assist on the final goal.
Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, Conn.) earned the shut out for the
Colonials after making just one save as the WestConn defense
allowed just two shots from the Panthers on the afternoon. Junior
Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, N.H.) made seven stops
for Plymouth State.
The Colonials begin a four-game home stand on Tuesday when they
host Worcester State University at 7:00 p.m. PSU, 3-6 overall
and 0-3 in the LEC, is also back in action Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.,
visiting Salem State University.
