Box Score Panthers pick up first LEC win of the
season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Sam
Laliberte (Concord, N.H.) scored four goals Saturday
afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University women's
soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Rhode Island College in a Little
East Conference match at Panther Field.
Laliberte scored the first goal of the game to give PSU the lead
and added three second-half scores to help the Panthers solidify
the win. Laliberte (right) has six goals in her
last two outings and a team-leading eight on the season.
Plymouth State picked up its first LEC victory of the season,
improving to 5-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play.
RIC got both of its goals from junior Ashley
Choiniere (Hope, R.I.), both coming about five minutes
apart late in the first half that gave the Anchorwomen a brief
lead. The loss leaves RIC with a 5-7 overall record, 1-3-0 in
the LEC.
After nearly 33 scoreless minutes, Laliberte broke the deadlock by
converting a nice centering pass from freshman Laura
Davis (Pelham, N.Y.). Choiniere tied the game up for
RIC a little more than three minutes later, taking a diagonal
pass on the right side and booting into the left side of the net,
and she put the Anchorwomen ahead at 41:07, converting a breakway
for her second of the game and seventh of the season.
It took PSU just 21 seconds to come back and tie the game as senior
Rebecca Wilson (Clinton, Conn.) scored her third
goal of the season and the teams were tied 2-2 at the break.
Laliberte tallied her second of the game and the eventual
game-winner just 1:24 into the second half, with an assist from
freshman Molly Todd (Epsom, N.H.) The
Panthers pulled away when Laliberte added two more goals, one on a
nice through-ball from freshman Cassie Graham
(Foster, R.I.) with 11 minutes remaining and the other on a corner
kick taken by junior Sarah Pandiscio (Simsbury,
Conn.)
PSU junior Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, N.H.) made
four saves to record the victory in goal. Senior
Maddie Pirri (Bristol, R.I.) had a busy day in the
RIC goal, finishing with nine saves.
Plymouth State returns to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. game at
Castleton College. Rhode Island College returns home to host
Framingham State Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
