Box Score Panthers down Chargers in OT for third straight
victory
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Carol
Messler (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) scored the
game-winning goal four minutes into the second overtime Tuesday
afternoon to lift Plymouth State University to a 1-0 victory over
Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference women's soccer match
at Panther Field.
Messler collected a loose ball near the top left corner of the
18-yard box and shot it towards the right side of the goal.
Colby-Sawyer keeper Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) got a piece of
the shot but couldn't keep it out of the net. The goal
gave PSU its third straight victory as the Panthers improve to 3-2
on the season, while the Chargers dropped to 2-4-1.
Plymouth State finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots for the
game, including 7-2 in the first half and 5-2 in the overtime
periods. Spencer made nine saves in the Chargers' goal,
while PSU junior goalie Angelina LaBroad (Hampton,
N.H.) recorded six saves en route to her first shutout of the
season and the third of her career.
Plymouth State opens Little East Conference play this Saturday with
a 1:00 p.m. kick-off at rival Keene State College.
Colby-Sawyer plays a Commonwealth Coast Conference match Saturday
at Eastern Nazarene (12:30 p.m.)
