Box Score D'Agati scores first goal for Panthers; home opener next
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Plymouth State University on Sunday afternoon, 2-1, in non-conference action at Kelsey Field.
Colby-Sawyer controlled play throughout the first half taking 13 shots, but could not get on the scoreboard. With one minute left to play in the frame, Plymouth State made a run towards goal. Colby-Sawyer keeper Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) attempted to come out to challenge the play, but got called for a foul in the box. Junior Sam D'Agati (Reading, Mass.) took the penalty kick and ripped a shot into the lower left corner of the net to give PSU a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers tied the game in the 54th minute when junior Stephanie Huntley (Woodbury, Conn.) bent a free kick into the back of the net from 25 yards out. Less than five minutes later, sophomore Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine) dribbled through traffic to create a scoring chance. As the PSU goalie came off the crease, Little scored on a shot into the opposite corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
Plymouth State had a chance to knot the score in the 82nd minute, when sophomore Emily Bell (Derry, N.H.) fired a shot over Spencer. The ball hit off the crossbar and deflected to junior Cassie Graham (Foster, R.I.) who ripped a shot, but was denied by the Colby-Sawyer keeper.
Spencer had two saves for Colby-Sawyer, while senior goalie Chelsea Duval (Dover, N.H.) collected five saves for PSU.
The Chargers, 2-0, will host Norwich on Wednesday at 4:00 pm, while the Panthers, 0-2, will host Bridgewater State University on Saturday in the home opener at Panther Field (4:30 pm.)
