Box Score

Meier continues scoring spree, Parsons earns shutout

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Sophomore Jordan Meier (Holderness, N.H.) scored for the third time in four games and junior Jenna Parsons (Windham, N.H.) picked up her second career shutout to lead Plymouth State University to a 2-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference women's soccer game at Kelsey Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Sarah Hicks (Sutton, Mass.) picked up her first two points of the year, assisting in both PSU goals, while junior Mallory Lloyd (Hartland, Vt.) notched her first goal of the season.

The Panthers have posted back-to-back wins to even their record at 2-2, while Colby-Sawyer dips to 2-3.

            The Basics:

            Plymouth State 2, Colby-Sawyer 0

            Plymouth State (2-2-0)

            Colby-Sawyer (2-3-0)

            How it Happened.

  • Meier put the Panthers ahead in the fifth minute when she knocked home her third goal of the year off a feed from Hicks.
  • Hicks set the table again seven minutes later, this time finding Lloyd for her first goal of the year.
  • Colby-Sawyer put on late offensive pressure, recording a pair of corners in the final two minutes, but the PSU defense held tight to preserve the shutout win.

            Inside the Numbers:

  • Parsons needed just two saves to pick up her second career shutout. The last came Oct. 2017 in a 3-0 win at Rivier.
  • Meier has been a goal-scoring machine to start the year, tallying single goals in three different games thus far. She leads the team with six points on the year.
  • Hicks, the team's leading scorer last year, picked up her first two points of the season.
  • PSU owned a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corners.

            Straight from the Coach's Mouth:

"The team played well," said head coach Ryan Joy. "It wasn't always pretty, but it wasn't ugly either. They played great all the way through. It was good to get the first shutout of the year and nice to get a lot of players in and continue to get looks. We're just trying to keep building towards the 28th [LEC opener]."

            Up Next:

  • PSU is back home at Arold Field on Saturday (Sept. 14) for a non-conference tilt with Roger Williams starting at 1:00 p.m.
