PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) picked up the win at No. 4 singles, but Bridgewater State University held down Plymouth State University, 8-1, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at the Holderness School Courts on Sunday afternoon.
In a match that would determine which team would earn a first round bye for this week's LEC Tournament, the visiting Bears jumped out to a quick lead after sweeping doubles play. LaBarre got the Panthers a point with her play at No. 4, but Bridgewater State was able to come out on top.

Julie Miller (Woburn, Mass.) was celebrated as part of Plymouth State's Senior Day activities.
PSU ends the regular season with a 10-4 record (6-2 LEC) and will be the No. 3 seed for the LEC Tournament. The Panthers host sixth-seeded Salem State on Tuesday (Oct. 19) at 3:00 p.m.
The Bears improve to 12-2 (7-1 LEC) and host the winner of Tuesday's PSU-SSU match in the semifinal round on Thursday (Oct. 21).

How it Happened:
- Juniors Kira Winter (Eliot, Mine) and Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) came up just short at No. 1 doubles, falling by an 8-5 margin.
- Miller and sophomore Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) played at No. 2 pairs, with LaBarre and freshman Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) slotting in at No. 3. Bridgewater State came away with 8-2 wins at both spots.
- LaBarre picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 for PSU's lone point.
- Winter came out on the short end of a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles, with Marshall falling 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
- Sophomore Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3, while Miller went down 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
- Cardoso fell 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 6 to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- LaBarre improves to a team-best 11-3 in singles play and has won eight-of-ten.
- PSU had won the last two head-to-head meetings.
- The Panthers will finish the season with double-digit wins for the fourth time in five years.
