LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Junior
Ashley Plante (Concord, N.H.) scored twice and added an assist, and freshman
Molly Bellmore (Hebron, Conn.) continued her storybook season as Plymouth State University used three second-half goals to top NVU-Lyndon, 3-0, in a non-conference women's soccer game at Varsity Athletics Field on a dreary Monday evening.
Bellmore scored her sixth goal of the season on a breakaway less than two minutes into the second half, and Plante notched a pair of goals of her own to lead the Panthers to the win.
Plymouth State improves to 4-3-0, while NVU-Lyndon drops to 0-4-1.
The Basics:
- Plymouth State 3, NVU-Lyndon 0
- Plymouth State (4-3-0)
- NVU-Lyndon (0-4-1)
How it Happened:
- Plante's through ball from just past midfield led Bellmore on a break up the right side. Bellmore made a pair of touches into the box before beating the Hornets' goalkeeper to the bottom left corner in the 47th minute for a 1-0 lead.
- Senior Abbey Johnson (Orlando, Fla.) blasted a shot from 35-yards out on the right side and Plante redirected it into the goal in the 56th minute to double the lead.
- Just over three minutes later, senior McKayla Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) weaved through three defenders before slipping a pass to Plante at the top of the box. Plante's right-footed boot hit the back of the net, just out of the reach of the diving NVU-Lyndon goalie.
By the Numbers:
- Bellmore leads the Panthers with six goals and three assists through seven games. She ranks just outside the top-20 nationally with 15 points, while she is tied for 29th in the country in goals scored and has a point in all but one game this fall.

- Freshmen Emily McDonough (Peabody, Mass.) and Cass Hanson (Stetson, Maine) led the Panthers with seven shots apiece.
- Classmate Sophia Torello (Killingworth, Conn.) needed just one save to earn the shutout in her first career game.
