PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer team defeated the Vermont State University (VTSU) Lyndon Hornets, 8-0, in a non-conference matchup on Arold Field Wednesday afternoon.
Three seniors were recognized prior to kickoff as
Jacob Santos (Anacortes, Wash.),
Rowan Williams (Berlin, Vt.), and
Aiden Doyle (Barrington, R.I.) were appreciated for their contributions to the men's soccer program.
All three seniors got on the scoreline, as Santos scored what became the game-winner, a header off a corner in the third minute of play to start out the afternoon. Williams followed suit, heading home his first collegiate goal in the second half, and Doyle added an assist in the winning effort.
Also scoring for the Panthers were sophomore
Lucas McCarthy (Richmond, Va.), freshman
Marco D'Addona (Torrington, Conn.), freshman
Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, Mass.), junior
Brayden White (Whitefield, N.H.), and junior
August Westerholm (Stockholm, Sweden), who put in two goals off the bench in the second half.
McCarthy recorded two assists, as sophomores
Nils Skogestig (Saltsjö Boo, Sweden),
Will Haney (Holbrook, Mass.), and senior
Faisal Abdallah (Pembroke, N.H.) rounded out the scoreline with one assist each for Plymouth State in the comfortable win.

Scott Danroth (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman
Kole Matta (Castleton, Vt.) split time in goal to secure the Panthers' second shutout of the season.
Plymouth State improves to 4-6-5, as VTSU Lyndon falls to 0-15-0 on the season.

How it Happened:
- The Panthers struck first in the 3rd minute as Santos rose above the Hornet back line to head a corner kick into the back of the net to put Plymouth State up 1-0.
- By the 15th minute, Plymouth State found themselves up 4-0 as the team started to pull away with a comfortable advantage. The Panthers settled things down and took that score into halftime.
- Williams tucked home his goal off a double assist from a McCarthy cross that found the head of White who headed the ball over to Williams for his goal in the 64th minute to put the team up 5-0.
- Tired legs kept the Hornets at bay as the Panthers scored their final three goals in the last ten minutes to close out the afternoon.
By the Numbers:
- Plymouth State outshot the Hornets 42-1 in the contest.
- The Panthers recorded 11 corner kicks to the Hornets' two.
- Shots on goal were in Plymouth State's favor, 21-1.
- The 42 total shots and 21 shots on goal are the most for a Panther team in a single game dating back to at least 2007.
- The Panthers are now 5-0-1 head-to-head against the Hornets dating back to 2016.
