MXC: Olson, Panthers repeat as LEC Champs

KEENE, N.H. – Graduate student Mike Olson (Sutton, Mass.) captured his second straight Little East Conference (LEC) individual title, while helping the Plymouth State University men's cross country team defend its team title at the LEC Championships at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Olson paced the pack with a 5:12 average mile to win the race in 25:18.70, topping the next closest runner by almost 40 seconds.

Olson was hardly the only Panther to put in an impressive effort, as juniors Jacob Gallaher (Gambrills, Md.) and Dylan Flewelling (Oakland, Maine) crossed the line in second and fourth.

Plymouth State captures its second-ever men's championship after winning the women's title in 2021. The Panthers scored the exact same number of points as last year (34) to top Southern Maine by 30 points.

The Basics:
  • LEC Championship – 1st of 8 Teams
Notable Team Scores:
  • Plymouth State (1st – 34), Southern Maine (2nd – 64), UMass Dartmouth (3rd – 66), Keene State (4th – 113), Eastern Connecticut (5th – 119), Rhode Island College (6th – 181), VTSU Castleton (7th – 194), UMass Boston (8th – 213)
How it Happened:
  • Olson took his second straight individual title in 25:18.70, while Gallaher closed in under the 26-minute barrier in 25:57.60 to come in second.
  • Flewelling had a big day on the course to capture fourth place with a season best time of 26:37.00.
  • The duo of freshman Cooper O'Neil (Millbury, Mass.) and junior Connor Wilcox (Colchester, Conn.) crossed the line in the 13th and 14th spots on each other's heels in 27:09.60 and 27:10.20, respectively.
  • Sophomore Dan Daschbach-Eaton (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Carson Jones (Lebanon, N.H.) were neck-and-neck to close out the top-seven for Plymouth State as both completed the 8k course in 27:13.80.

Up Next:
  • Plymouth State will take a week off to gear up for the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships on Nov. 11. The men's 8k is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds in Hopkinton, N.H.
