WXC: Panthers hold strong in highly competitive UMD Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) led the Panthers with a top-50 finish to help the Plymouth State University women's cross country team to a 23rd-place finish at the highly competitive UMass Dartmouth Invitational at Robert Dowd Cross Country Course on Sunday.
 
Competing against schools from all three NCAA Divisions, Karow made her collegiate debut in the 5k with a 46th-place finish in a time of 19:04.39, the second fastest runner to represent the Little East Conference (LEC) in the fray.
 
Plymouth State came in third among LEC teams, just behind Keene State and Eastern Connecticut State, to take 23rd overall.

How it Happened:
  • Karow made a strong debut in the 5k with a time of 19:04.39 for a 45th-place finish.
  • Junior Emily Philbrook (Penacook, N.H.) took a top-100 finish in a career best 20:00.06, while classmate Lexi Marcolini (Milford, Mass.) also crossed the line in a career-best time, finishing in 21:09.94.
  • Freshman Abby Bergeron (Essex Jct., Vt.) and junior Abby Snow (Grantham, N.H.) closed out the top five for the Panthers with times of 22:22.70 and 22:43.55, respectively.
  • Sophomore Isabel Costa (Burrillville, R.I.) and junior Niki Monoxelos (Litchfield, N.H.) both crushed their career bests in times of 22:57.17 and 23:39.66.
  • Junior Amy Cohen (Concord, N.H.) made her collegiate debut in the 5k with a time of 23:35.87.
  • The duo of sophomore Amber Fernald (Alton, N.H.) and junior Emma Duggan (Concord, Mass.) represented the Panthers in the junior varsity race with times 25:37.52 and 26:02.13, respectively.
 
Up Next:
  • After a weekend off, the Panthers make the trip to Keene State for the Keene State Invitational on Sept. 30. The race kicks off at 11:00 a.m.
