WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer team fell to the Westfield State University Owls, 7-1, in a non-conference match at Alumni Field Tuesday evening.
After a relatively tight first half, the Owls exploded for six second half goals to put the game out of reach. Senior goalkeeper
Scott Danroth (Edmonton, Alberta) did what he could between the pipes, registering a career high seven saves.
The Panthers managed to come away with a goal from sophomore
Colby Cowan (Oakdale, Conn.) on a great individual effort to ruin the shutout bid for the Westfield State goalkeeper.
Plymouth State falls to 2-5-1, while Westfield State improves to 5-1-1.

How it Happened:
- The Owls jumped in front, 1-0, just five minutes into the contest on a bouncing ball which Westfield State was able to put home.
- Danroth made five saves in the first half to keep the Panthers close. Plymouth State was held to just two shots (0 on target) in the opening half of play as the 1-0 scoreline remained at the midpoint.
- Any hope of a fast start to open the second half was squelched by the Owls, who tallied two goals in the first ten minutes of the second frame to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
- Westfield State continued to pour in goals, extending the lead to 6-0 after 66 minutes of play.
- The Panthers were able to get on the board in the 67th minute as Cowan took advantage of a mistake in the back and poked in the goal to make it a 6-1 game.
- Plymouth State found some life after scoring its goal, but the deficit proved far too much to come back from as the Owls sailed away with the win.
