WESTFIELD, Mass. – After rushing for a career high in Plymouth State University's season-opening win at New England College on Saturday, graduate student
Gregory Walker (Boxford, Mass.) was selected by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) as the Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Walker carried the ball 13 times for 185 yards, a remarkable 14.2 yards per carry average, and scored three touchdowns to help the Panthers run past NEC, 49-21, in the Pilgrims' first varsity game in more than 50 years.
Walker nearly eclipsed his personal best in the first quarter alone, finishing the opening frame with 119 yards and all three of his touchdowns. He scored on runs of 1, 14, and 40 yards, sparking a PSU offense that churned out more than 400 yards on the ground for the game.
Plymouth State heads into league play on Saturday (Sept. 13), when Worcester State visits Panther Field for a noon kickoff.
