PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) continued her strong stretch of play with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, but Eastern Connecticut State University pulled away from Plymouth State University in the fourth quarter for a 73-55 Little East Conference (LEC) women's basketball decision at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Warriors used a late first-quarter run to carry a 23-15 lead into the second quarter, but Malozzi scored 10 second-quarter points as the Panthers cut the margin to six, 40-34, at halftime.
Eastern Connecticut pushed the lead into double digits in the third quarter, but PSU closed the frame on a 6-1 spurt to make it 52-46 entering the fourth. The teams traded baskets through the opening three minutes, before the visitors used a 14-1 surge over the next five minutes to seize control.
Plymouth State moves to 8-5 (1-4 LEC), while the Warriors stand at 6-8 (3-2 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The Warriors jumped out to a five-point lead through the first four minutes, but Malozzi converted an old-fashioned three-point play and a three-pointer from senior Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) put PSU in the lead, 15-14, with 4:39 left in the opening quarter.
- Eastern Connecticut closed the frame with a 7-0 spurt to take a 23-15 lead into the second quarter.
- The visitors extended the margin to double-digits, 31-21, midway through the second, but Malozzi answered at the other end and senior Reagan Peck (Dudley, Mass.) drilled a three-pointer to keep the Panthers close.
- Malozzi had four points in a quarter-ending 6-1 run to pull within 40-34 at the half.
- Eastern Connecticut restored the 11-point edge, but PSU closed the frame with a flurry. Senior Elli Cox (Derryfield, N.H.) scored four points in another 6-1 spurt to make it 52-46 heading to the fourth quarter.
- The teams traded baskets through the opening three minutes, but ECSU used a 14-1 run over the next six minutes to take control.
By the Numbers:
- Malozzi went 6-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the free throw line to record her second double-double of the season. Her 10 rebounds were one shy of her season high.
- Freshman Macy Swormstedt (Laconia, N.H.) stuffed the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, six assists and a steal.
- Cox finished with six points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
- PSU shot 20-for-54 (37.0%) from the field and made 12-of-14 free throws.
- The Warriors drained 8-of-23 (34.8%) three-pointers and shot 42.9% (27-of-63) from the floor.
- Plymouth State assisted on 11-of-20 made field goals.
- Eastern Connecticut held a narrow 40-36 advantage on the boards.
- PSU outscored the Warriors in the paint, 30-26, and in bench points, 17-5.
