WB: Malozzi leads all scorers as Panthers battle Keene State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's basketball team dropped a 75-49 decision to Keene State College in a Little East Conference matchup at Foley Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
 
The contest was tightly contested through the opening half before Keene State used a 23-9 advantage in the third quarter to create separation and secure the conference victory.
 
Senior Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) opened the new year with a strong all-around effort, leading all scorers with 17 points while pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out four assists. Classmate Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) and freshman Macy Swormstedt (Laconia, N.H.) each added eight points for the Panthers.
 
Plymouth State moves to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in LEC play, while the Owls improve to 9-4 (3-1 LEC).

  • Plymouth State opened the game strong, jumping out to a 10-5 lead in the first four minutes.
  • Keene State responded with a 12-2 run to take an 18-12 advantage late in the first quarter.
  • Malozzi knocked down a three-pointer in the closing seconds to pull the Panthers within three (18-15) after one.
  • PSU scored the first four points of the second quarter to regain a 19-17 lead with 8:46 remaining.
  • The Owls answered with an 11-2 run to move in front 29-21, a lead they would hold the rest of the way.
  • Keene State scored the final four points of the half to carry a 38-29 edge into the break.
  • The Panthers were limited to nine points in the third quarter as the Owls extended their lead to 61-38 entering the fourth.
  • The teams played even in the final period, but Keene's third-quarter run proved too much to overcome.
