WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman
Ricky Phom (Lowell, Mass.) earned weekly recognition from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) on Monday, when the league announced its weekly award winners.
Phom, a defensive back, earned a spot on the MASCAC Football Weekly Honor Roll after helping the Panthers rally past Westfield State, 28-17, on Saturday.
Phom tied for the team lead with five tackles, including four solo stops and one tackle for a loss. He also recorded a key interception to help PSU rally from a 14-0 halftime deficit. Trailing 17-7 in the fourth quarter, Phom picked off a pass near midfield and returned it to the Westfield State 9-yard line, setting up the Panthers' second touchdown. On the Owls' ensuing possession, Phom recorded a tackle for a loss, and two plays later, PSU recovered a fumble and converted it into the go-ahead touchdown.
Plymouth State travels to Framingham State on Saturday (Oct. 31) for a noon clash with the Rams.
