NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following an impressive performance at the Little East Conference (LEC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Plymouth State University women jumped six spots while the men held steady in the East Region when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its fifth Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) this week.
The women, who set six program records and earned seven medals, were the biggest risers in the region, climbing six places to No. 16. The men remained at No. 22.
Freshman
Clare Tuohy (Sunapee, N.H.) accounted for a large portion of PSU's point total with three record-breaking performances. She won the 400 meters, placed second in the 200 meters, and teamed with senior
Cass Hanson (Stetson, Maine) and sophomores
Ani Flynn (Plymouth, N.H.) and
Amelia Lefebvre (Greenland, N.H.) to set a program record in the 4x400-meter relay. Her 400-meter time (58.62) ranks 10th in the region, while her 200-meter time (25.95) sits 12th. The relay ranks ninth (4:08.81).
Flynn also produced a pair of regionally ranked, individual medal-winning performances. Her bronze medal-winning time of 9.29 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles shattered the program record and ranks ninth in the East Region, while her gold medal-winning high jump of 1.58 meters ranks 10th regionally. Junior
Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) recorded the 14th-fastest time in the region in the 800 meters to earn silver.
The men added three new regionally ranked performances. Freshman
Enzo Valenti (Montville, Conn.) delivered in the weight throw, finishing fourth with a mark of 15.74 meters that ranks 10th in the region. Senior
Max Goodman (South Salem, N.Y.) placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:30.04, ranking 29th regionally, while sophomore
Gabe Kean (Thornton, N.H.) ran a personal-best 7.15 in the 60-meter finals to finish sixth – a time that ranks 35th in the East.
The TFRI is a complex mathematical system used as the benchmark to rank collegiate track and field teams since 2008.
Qualifying athletes will compete at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships from Feb. 27 – Mar. 1.
