WSOC: Godo’s first-half strike sends Panthers past Elms

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Islah Godo (Topsham, Maine) buried a cross from senior Drea Oswell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) for the game's only goal as Plymouth State University battled past Elms College, 1-0, at Arold Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Just a few minutes after entering the game, Oswell made an immediate impact, crossing a ball into the box to Godo, who one-timed it with her left foot and into the net for the game's lone goal.

From there, the Panther defense was suffocating, led by freshman goalkeeper Liv Desruisseaux (Dracut, Mass.), who picked up her first career shutout.

Plymouth State improves to 5-2, while the Blazers fall to 3-4-1.

How it Happened:

The Panthers generated the first real chance when junior Sofia D'Addona (Torrington, Conn.) sent a ball out wide to freshman Bella Coporale (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who fired a shot from the top of the box that was stopped.
A few minutes later, Oswell entered the game and made an immediate impact. Sophomore Maggie MacDonald (Pembroke, Mass.) won the ball off an Elms goal kick and played it ahead to Oswell. Oswell took a few dribbles before playing the ball into the middle of the box, where Godo calmly finished off the far post to give the Panthers the lead.
Plymouth State had a good chance to double its lead late in the half when a corner kick by Godo was headed up in the air to D'Addona, who took a low shot that got through traffic but was stopped by the Blazers keeper.
Godo nearly scored again in the 76th minute when she received a pass from MacDonald and took a shot from well outside the box that drilled the crossbar.
Elms had a chance to pull even in the final 10 minutes when a Blazer got a header on a cross and sent the ball to the back post, but sophomore Sophie West (Rochester, N.H.) was stationed at the post and used her head to keep the ball out of the net to help seal the Panthers' win.
