WSOC: Godo, Palhof lead Panthers to shutout over Fisher

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Islah Godo (Topsham, Maine) buried a perfect strike from 30 yards out and classmate Corinne Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) added a late insurance goal as Plymouth State University blanked Fisher College, 2-0, for its second straight shutout in the home opener at Arold Field on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers controlled play for the majority of the first half, but it wasn't until Godo's blast in the 35th minute that they were able to break through. She rifled a shot from well beyond the box that kissed the left post and settled into the back of the net, giving PSU a 1-0 lead at the break.

Palhof flicked up a pass from freshman Bella Coporale (Stafford Springs, Conn.), then turned and volleyed it past the goalkeeper to seal the win in the 86th minute.

Plymouth State improves to 2-0-0, while the Falcons fall to 1-1-0.

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 2, Fisher 0
    • Plymouth State (2-0-0)
    • Fisher (1-1-0)
How it Happened:
  • Plymouth State controlled the tempo, but Fisher had the game's first scoring chance, firing a shot from the top of the box. Freshman Gabby Morell (Landenberg, Pa.) was up to the task, diving to her left to deflect the ball wide and keep the game scoreless.
  • Godo touched the ball past a defender and fired a blast from 30 yards out on the left side that put the Panthers in front in the 35th minute, tucking her shot off the left post.
  • The Panthers nearly doubled the margin early in the second half. Godo sent a long cross from the right side for sophomore Clara Wilson (Montpelier, Vt.), but her header deflected off a defender and the goalkeeper was able to cover the loose ball.
  • Fisher built pressure in the late stages of the half, but the Panthers' backline denied the Falcons any quality chances.
  • Palhof and Coporale worked a give-and-go to seal the win in the 86th minute. Palhof played the ball to Coporale at the corner of the box, then flicked her return pass and volleyed a turnaround shot to the far post to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
  • Godo and Palhof both tallied their first goals of the season.
  • Coporale registered her first collegiate point.
  • PSU held sizable advantages in shots (16-3) and corner kicks (8-1).
  • Morell made three saves to post a second straight clean sheet.
  • Plymouth State improves to 3-0-0 in the all-time series. The Panthers have not conceded a goal in any of the three contests.

Up Next:
  • Plymouth State visits VTSU Johnson on Wednesday (Sept. 9) for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with the Badgers.
