Ryan Carr took over the wrestling program in May 2023 to become the 17th head coach in program history.

In his first season, he helped lead a pair of grapplers through two of the best seasons in recent history. Chase Anestis ’25 ‘26G went 20-8 and earned All-NEWA honors after finishing seventh at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships, the best finish for a PSU wrestler at the event since the 2018-19 season. Ty Miller ’24 posted team highs of 22 wins and nine pins, both the highest totals since the 2017-18 season.

The duo continued its success in 2024-25. Anestis went 31-4 mark with 14 pins and no pins allowed, while Miller posted a 35-11 record with 16 pins. The pair combined for eight place finishes, with both narrowly missing NCAA Division III National Championship qualification. Anestis finished fourth at the Division III Northeast Regional, one spot shy of qualifying, while Miller was fifth.

Despite missing three months due to injury, Anestis returned to the mat for the regional championship in 2025-26. After suffering an opening-round setback, he rebounded with four straight wins before falling to the second-ranked wrestler in the region. He responded with a 5-0 win in the fifth-place bout to finish the year 13-5.

A three-time All-New England wrestler for the Panthers, Carr competed at 190 pounds and heavyweight from 1995-96 through 1998-99. He was crowned the New England Champion at heavyweight during his senior season and earned All-New England honors as a sophomore and junior after placing second at 190 pounds both years.

A team captain as a senior, Carr was also a three-time Academic All-American. After completing his eligibility, he remained with the program as an assistant coach for the 1999-2000 season, helping mentor four All-New England wrestlers.

Carr spent 11 years as head wrestling coach at Salem High School from 2001-12, where he coached 13 state champions and five New England champions. He also served as Team Massachusetts All-Star head coach and held positions with the Salem High football program and local youth football organizations.

The recipient of the Plymouth State Alumni Achievement Award in 2011, Carr stepped away from coaching in 2012 after the birth of his first child.
