Dennis McManus

Dennis McManus

Dennis McManus is in his first year as an assistant coach in 2022-23 after spending the previous three years as a coach’s aide. McManus had spent 31 years in the dugout as head coach from 1985-2015. McManus’ experience, knowledge of the game of baseball and relationships with alumni, faculty and the local community all add to his priceless value to the baseball program. During his time as head coach McManus amassed 506 wins – the most wins by any coach in any sport in school history. In 2012 McManus led the team to an LEC Tournament runner up finish, to go along with multiple ECAC runner up appearances.
 
McManus has served on numerous ECAC and NCAA tournament selection committees, as well as being the President of the NEIBA (New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association). He served on the NEIBA executive committee for 14 years, and in 2021 was selected into the NEIBA Hall of Fame.
 
McManus also coached the Laconia Wilkins-Smith Post 1 American Legion team from 1993-1995, leading the team to its only State Championship in its 93-year history in 1993. Additionally, McManus coached the Concord Quarry Dogs in the competitive New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) from 2001-2003, reaching the playoffs two of those three seasons. 
 
McManus graduated from Plymouth State in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and earned a Master of Science in Physical Education and Athletic Training from Indiana University in 1975. Over the years McManus has been awarded many prestigious awards, most notably:
  • 2009 NEIBA Jack Butterfield Award presented for outstanding work and devotion to college baseball
  • 2013 Pat Storer Award for service to students, staff, and faculty as PSU
  • 2015 Ut Prosim Award for supporting the profession of athletic training and PSU
McManus is a native of Concord, N.H. and currently lives with his wife Debbie in Campton. They have two daughters, Erin and Kelly, and two grandsons, Sean and Michael.
