PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomores Sarah
Smith (Lexington, Mass.) and Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) registered two goals and one
assist each Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State
University field hockey team to a 7-1 victory over Fitchburg State
College in a Little East Conference game at Arold Field.
Fitchburg actually got on the board first as junior Leni Aidonidis
(Winchendon, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game just three
minutes after the opening whistle, but it was all Panthers the rest
of the way. Smith scored her first goal to tie the game 12
minutes into the game, and added the eventual game-winner with
under a minute to play in the first half as PSU took a 2-1 lead
into the intermission. Smith also scored three goals in
Wednesday's win over New England College.
The floodgates opened for PSU in the second half. D'Ambroise
scored her two goals, sophomores Cortney Colligan
(Brookfield, N.H.) and Morgan Lemmon (Gilford,
N.H.) added unassisted goals, and freshman Sarah
Warner (Contoocook, N.H.) tallied her first career
score. Senior Katie Barany (Middlesex, Vt.)
collected a pair of assists for the Panthers.
The Panthers finished with a 29-12 advantage in shots.
PSU has won six of its last seven games to improve to 7-5 overall
and 6-2 in LEC play, while Fitchburg State dropped its eighth in a
row and fell to 2-11 and 0-8. The Panthers are home again on
Wednesday for an LEC match-up against Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.),
and Fitchburg State travels to Nichols on Monday for a
non-conference game (7:00 p.m.)
