PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University
finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots, but Rhode Island College
scored the only two goals of the game Saturday afternoon and the
Anchormen went on to blank the Panthers, 2-0, in a Little East
Conference men's soccer game at Panther Field.
PSU outshot the Anchormen 6-5 in the opening half, but senior Derek
Rocha (Fall River, Mass.) scored the only goal for RIC to give the
visitors a 1-0 lead at the break. Junior Josh Silva
(Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up an assist on the goal.
The Panthers had a 6-3 edge in second-half shots, but sophomore
Matt Turbitt (Providence, R.I.) converted a through ball from
junior Brandon Migliore (Coventry, R.I.) for RIC to make it a 2-0
game in the 68th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, R.I.) made four saves in the
RIC goal to post his second shutout of the season. Junior
Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) stopped five shots
in the Panther goal.
Plymouth State, 4-6-1 overall and 2-3-0 in LEC games, gets right
back into action Sunday with a non-conference game at Middlebury
(3:00 p.m.) RIC, 6-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the LEC, plays
again Wednesday at Westfield State (7:00 p.m.)
