Box Score
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Keith
Whittemore (Holderness, N.H.) scored a pair of first-half
goals Wednesday afternoon to lift Plymouth State University to a
2-1 victory over Castleton State College in a non-conference men's
soccer game at Panther Field.
Whittemore, one of five Panther seniors celebrating Senior Day,
tallied both goals in the first 23 minutes of the game to give his
team a 2-0 halftime lead. The Spartans scored with five
minutes remaining in the game to cut the margin to one, but PSU
proved too much for the visitors.
Seniors Alex Marin (Manchester, N.H.) and
Jamal Luttamaguzi (Stockholm, Sweden) assisted on
the two Panther goals. Marin sent a through ball that
Whittemore finished off in the 10th minute to put the Panthers on
the board, and Luttamaguzi fed Whittemore for the second goal in
the 23rd minute. PSU's two other seniors, Takeru
Tanikawa (Shizuola, Japan) and Greg
Greico (Mahopac, N.Y.) played strong defense on their
final home game.
Freshman Chris Mulholland (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) broke the shutout
for the Spartans with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute, his
first collegiate score.
PSU junior Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) had a
solid effort in the Panther goal, needing to make just two saves to
pick up the victory. Junior Mike Anthony (Dartmouth, Mass.)
had a busy day in the Spartans goal, finishing with seven saves, as
PSU out-shot the visitors, 19-10.
The Panthers, 5-7-1 overall, return to Little East Conference play
on Saturday with a visit to UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.)
Castleton State, 9-7, plays a North Atlantic Conference game
Saturday at Thomas College (3:00 p.m.)
