KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College women's
volleyball team took a major step in securing its first
Little East Conference regular season championship Tuesday night
with a 3-1 victory over rival Plymouth State University at
Spaulding Gym.
The Owls (14-6, 5-0) remain undefeated in conference play with one
LEC match to play against R.I. College on Oct. 20. Plymouth
State falls to 9-5 and 2-2 in LEC play.
After dropping the first game 24-30, the Owls came back to win
three in a row 30-17, 30-24, and 30-23.
Sophomore middle hitter Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) had a big
night for the Owls with 17 kills and five blocks. Junior
middle hitter Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) finished with 15
kills and six blocks. Defensively, junior libero Sarah Peterson
(Danville, N.H.) added 19 digs and sophomore setter Jordan Pokryfki
(Wasila, AK.) had 46 assists.
Sophomore Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I) led the
Panthers with 12 kills and five blocks. Senior
Kirsten Willoughby (Plymouth, N.H.) contributed
eight kills and four blocks, while junior Wendy
Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore Megan
Elliott (West Haven, Conn.) chipped in seven kills apiece.
Both teams will be in action this weekend, Keene State is at the
Bowdoin College tournament while Plymouth State will compete at
Springfield College's Tom Hay Tournament.
