Box Score
BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior defender Corey
Cenate (Springfield, Vt.) netted his first goal of the
season with just 54 seconds left in regulation Saturday afternoon
to tie the match for the visiting Plymouth State University men's
soccer team vs. University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East
Conference match at the Clark Athletic Center field.
The score remained tied at 2-2 for the rest of the contest.
The Beacons finish their season with an overall record of 8-8-1
overall and 1-5-1 in Little East Conference play, while the
Panthers stand at 6-8-2 and 2-4-1 to complete their season.
Cenate went one-on-one in the open field with the UMass Boston
keeper, before beating him with a shot into the left side of the
net to knot the match at 89:06 for Plymouth State.
Junior defender Takeru Tanikawa (Shizuoka,
Japan/Tilton Prep (N.H.)) put the Panthers on the board when he
took a cross from senior Alex Marin (Manchester,
N.H./Memorial) and found the back of the left side of the net, just
7:13 into the game.
The Beacons lost their top scorer to a red card with 12:37 left in
the first half and played a man down for much of the match, but
managed to tie the score at 1-1 when senior Maynor Sanchez (Boston,
Mass.) sent the ball into the box on a corner kick, which resulted
in the ball being boxed around until senior midfielder Levon
Tebelekian (Glendale, Cal.) found senior Anthony Cataldo (Everett,
Mass.) in front of the net for his first collegiate goal in his
last career match at the 61:11 mark.
The Beacons took a 2-1 margin after the Plymouth State keeper took
down a UMass Boston midfielder in the box, resulting in, not only a
penalty kick, but also a red card for the goalie to even the
playing field at 10 players per side. Sanchez converted on
the penalty kick for his team-leading ninth goal of the season with
7:01 to go in regulation.
The Panthers owned a 22-17 shot advantage, including 4-1 in the
second overtime period.
UMass Boston junior keeper Paul Maniscalco (Hanover, Mass.) matched
his season-high with 11 saves, while junior Nick
Giusto (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped both shots he faced in
the first half, before yielding to sophomore Dan
Salzer (Dover, N.H.), who turned away three shots and
allowed a goal in 37:59 of action in the second half. Junior
Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) played the remaining
27:01 of action, allowing a goal and making two saves.
Senior Keith Whittemore (Holderness, N.H.)
finished the season as PSU's leading scorer with eight goals and
four assists. Marin was second with three goals and four
assists, and Tanikawa finished with four goals and an assist from
