PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior goalie Leah
Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) made seven saves and Plymouth
State University scored a pair of late second-half goals Saturday
afternoon to defeat Westfield State College, 2-0, in a Little East
Conference field hockey game at Arold Field.
It was a scoreless game for nearly 60 minutes as Curtain and
Westfield State senior goalie Cat Hanks (Somers, Conn.) stopped
everything that came their way. Both keepers ended up with
seven saves on the afternoon, and Curtin finished with her third
shutout of the year.
PSU finally got on the board with just over 10 minutes remaining on
a goal by senior Katie Barany (Middlesex, Vt.),
assisted by classmate Amy McGrath (Townsend,
Mass.) Freshman Kristina Conroy (Wakefield,
Mass.) added an insurance goal three minutes later, with an assist
from classmate Lauren Plummer (Monument Beach,
Mass.), to seal the victory.
PSU, 5-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play, continues its
four-game home stand with a non-conference game Wednesday against
New England College (3:30 p.m.) Westfield State returns home
to host Becker in a non-conference game on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.)
