PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Senior forward Mike Mallette
[Chepachet, R.I.] scored twice on the power play - including once
with 48 seconds remaining in regulation - to help Salve Regina
University earn a 2-2 tie with Plymouth State University in ECAC
Northeast men's ice hockey action Saturday.
After not getting a power-play chance through the first two
periods, Salve Regina (3-5-2, 1-3-1) made the most of its chances
in the third period. The Seahawks were 2-for-4 in the final period,
with Mallette cleaning up rebounds in front of the net twice.
Plymouth State (2-1-2, 0-1-1) twice held a one-goal lead. Freshman
Seth McQuade [Manchester, N.H.] scored the first
goal of his career to break a scoreless tie at 11:16 of the second
period, and the score remained 1-0 through two periods.
After Mallette's first goal tied the game four minutes into the
third period, the Seahawks appeared to gain momentum. However,
Plymouth State won a face off in the Salve Regina zone, and
sophomore Chris Chambers [Crofton, Md.] lifted a
backhand over the stick-side shoulder of goalie Pat Enloe [Stuart,
Fla.] to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead with 8:47 on the clock.
Enloe made 19 saves for Salve Regina, including a stop at
point-blank range on Plymouth State freshman Andrew
Stewart [O'Leary, Prince Edward Island] late in the third
period. Sophomore Erik Shields [Lebanon, Maine]
also played well in the Panther goal, stopping 28 shots.
Salve Regina plays at Suffolk University on Tuesday, Dec. 4 (7
p.m.), while Plymouth State hosts Stonehill College on Monday, Dec.
3 at 6 p.m.
