DANBURY, Conn. - Freshman Michael Jensen (Gales
Ferry, Conn.) scored a game-high 27 points Saturday afternoon to
lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team
to a 99-82 victory over Little East Conference rival Plymouth State
University at Feldman Arena.
A total of four WestConn players scored in double figures including
senior Jamie Procino, (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) who tossed in 20
points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior Kyle
Norfleet (Waterbury, Conn.) added 13 points and sophomore Tyshawn
Gillespie (Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points for the
winners.
Senior Chris Wilkinson (Newmarket, N.H.) led
Plymouth State with 14 points and eight rebounds off the
bench. Junior Ben Huntington (Hampstead,
N.H.) added 12 points in the loss, 10 points below his average.
The Colonials never trailed after Norfleet canned a long
three-pointer two minutes into the first half. The Panthers
hung tough, but WestConn went on to a 44-35 halftime lead.
Plymouth State drew within five points three times in the second
half, the latest at the 16:32 mark. Western followed with a
19-9 run five minutes later to give the Colonials a 15-point lead,
67-52, and PSU couldn't challenge the rest of the way.
WestConn raises its record to 6-2 on the season and evens its LEC
mark at 1-1 while the Panthers fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in
league action.
PSU returns home to host Tufts University on Tuesday at Foley
Gymnasium (7:30 p.m.) The Colonials host Bridgewater State on
Wednesday at Feldman Arena (7:00 p.m.)
