PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) scored the only goal of the
game late in the first half, and Plymouth State University went on
to defeat Western Connecticut State University, 1-0, in a Little
East Conference field hockey game at Arold Field.
The Panthers won their second straight LEC game to improve to 2-1
in conference play and 2-4 overall. All six PSU games have
been decided by one goal, including three in overtime.
WestConn dropped its fourth in a row and fell to 2-5 overall and
1-2 in the LEC.
With time winding down in the first half, D'Ambroise poked a loose
ball out of reach of the goalie, then drove the ball into the back
of the net with just 1:21 showing on the first half clock. It was
her second goal of the season, both game-winners.
Plymouth State finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including
7-3 in the first half. WestConn battled hard in the second
half and had several opportunities, but couldn't push one across.
Senior goalie Leah Curtin (Londonderry, N.H.) made
nine saves for PSU in her first start of the season, recording her
fourth career shutout. Freshman Christina Natale (Farmington,
Conn.) finished with 13 saves for the Colonials.
After playing its last four games at home, PSU hits the road for
its next three, beginning Wednesday at Framingham State (4:00
p.m.) WestConn visits instate rival Eastern Connecticut on
Wednesday (4:30 p.m.)
