CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton State College women's tennis team defeated Plymouth State University for the first time since 2000, earning a 6-3 non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon.

            The Spartans swept all three doubles matches with Jamie Olson and Kim Allen defeating senior Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) and freshman Buffy Garland (Freedom, N.H.) 8-0 in the #1 slot to set the tone.

            Castleton split the six singles matches with the Panthers. Deyermond took the #1 singles match for PSU over Charla Klaas 6-2, 6-0, and teammate Briley Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) needed three sets to dispatch Olson in #2 singles, 6-2, 5-7, (10-6). Allen would take the #3 singles match without dropping a game over Garland, while sophomore Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up the other Panther victory at #4 singles.

            The Panthers were without two of their top players, one who is injured and one who was attending a class.

            Castleton improves to 4-1 on the season while Plymouth State falls to 1-6. The Spartans are back in action on Sunday when they play host to NAC foe, Bay Path College at 1:00 pm.  Plymouth State hosts UMass-Boston at 2:00 pm on Saturday in Little East Conference action.
