PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Eliza
Badeau (Foster, R.I.) registered 30 kills Friday night to
lead the PSU women's volleyball team to a pair of victories in the
Johnson & Wales University Fall Classic.
The Panthers defeated Johnson & Wales-Denver in the opening
match, 3-1, and followed that up with a 3-0 victory over Framingham
State College. PSU and the host Johnson & Wales are the
only two teams to go 2-0 in Friday night's action.
After dropping the opening game against JWU-Denver, 30-28, PSU came
back to sweep the next three, 30-17, 30-22, 30-21. Badeau led
the Panthers with 17 kills, while junior Wendy
Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.) recorded 10 kills. Juniors
Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) and Regan
Bowlen (Portsmouth, N.H.) made 20 and 18 digs,
respectively, and sophomore setter Brianna
Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) contributed 38 assists, 11
digs and three service aces.
Plymouth State had little trouble in downing Framingham State,
30-24, 30-27, 30-17. Badeau led the way again for the
Panthers with 13 kills and five blocks, while junior
Michaela Del Rosso (East Providence, R.I.) added
10 kills and seven blocks. Spears and senior Kim
Tobyne (Manchester, N.H./West) combined for 29 digs.
The tournament continues on Saturday with PSU facing Wheaton
College at 12:00 p.m. and host Johnson & Wales at 2:00 p.m.
