PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University
women's tennis team turned in its strongest performance of the
season Saturday afternoon en route to a 9-0 sweep of the University
of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference match at the
P.E. Center Courts.
"It wasn't that UMass Boston isn't a good team," said PSU coach
Barbara Rawlsky-Willett, "but for the first time
this year, everyone on our team played well on the same day.
Doubles played well, singles played well, everyone."
The Panthers set the tone from the start, capturing all three
doubles encounters to take a 3-0 lead. PSU then swept through
the singles, winning all six in straight sets. Senior
Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) won her third
straight match at No. 1 singles, and junior Meghan
Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) and senior Briley
Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) were easy winners for PSU at
Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.
Sophomore Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.),
freshman Buffy Garland (Freedom, N.H.) and
sophomore Denise Huckins (Holderness, N.H.)
collected singles wins for PSU in the lower half of the
line-up. Deyermond, Rodier and Arponen share the team lead
this season with five singles wins each.
