PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer College
women's tennis team had little trouble in defeating Plymouth State
University Thursday afternoon, handing the Panthers an 8-1 setback
in the dual match opener for both schools.
The Chargers swept the three doubles matches, and then took five
of the six singles matches in straight sets to claim the team
victory. The only winner for the home team was sophomore
Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass./South), who won
the second set in a tiebreaker and took the match with a 10-5
triumph in a third-set super-breaker.
Four Colby-Sawyer players were double winners on the day -
sophomores Mary Francis (Steuben, Maine), Jen LaChance
(Killingworth, Conn.) and Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.).,
freshman Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) Freshman Olivia Ellis
(Jericho, Vt.) also won her match at #5 singles, while freshman
Lauren DeFelice (Sandy Hook, Conn.) teamed with Francis for a win
at #2 doubles, and freshman Carolyn Drake (Great River, N.Y.)
paired up with Mailman to capture the match at #3 doubles.
PSU, 0-1, plays another non-conference match Saturday at
Endicott College (12:00 p.m.) CSC, 1-0, opens Commonwealth Coast
Conference action Sunday at Regis College (1:00 p.m.)
