Box Score
SALEM, Mass. - Senior midfielder Alex Kakambouras
(Melrose, Mass.) headed a 50-yard restart into the upper right hand
corner with just 4:25 to play Saturday evening to lift Salem State
College to a 1-0 victory over the Plymouth State University
Panthers in a non-conference men's soccer match at Alumni Field.
The
Vikings and Panthers produced a scoreless first half after waiting
one hour to start the match because of lightning. The match did not
begin until 7:00 pm due to heavy heat lightning surrounding the
South Salem area.
SSC
(2-0), who outshot the Panthers, 11-7, posted its second shutout of
the season in front of junior goalkeeper Pawel Brzykcy (Krakow,
Poland), who was forced to make three saves, all in the opening
half. PSU's Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) stopped
three shots in the first half and one in the second.
Plymouth
nearly enjoyed a 1-0 lead midway through the second half only to
watch freshman forward Tommy Schrey's (Munich,
Germany) 25-yard blast from the right flank from ring off the
crossbar above Brzycky's leap.
SSC's
next match will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, when the Vikings travel to
Babson (4:00 pm.) The Panthers are back in action Thursday, Sept.
13, with a visit to Bridgewater State (3:30 p.m.)
