BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College swept the
three doubles matches and took four of the six singles matches
Saturday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University, 7-2, in
a non-conference women's tennis match on the South Campus courts.
The Power Gulls won for the second time in as many outings this
season, while Plymouth State, which played considerably better than
its most recent outing, according to head coach Barbara
Rawlsky-Willett, lost its second straight and dropped to
0-2.
The winners for PSU were junior Meghan Rodier
(Francestown, N.H.) at #2 singles, and freshman Buffy
Garland (Freedom, N.H.) at #5 singles. The Panthers also
got an outstanding effort from #1 singles player Jill
Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.), who lost in three sets in the
scorching hot sun after taking the opening set.
"We rebounded well after such a poor performance in our last
match," said Rawlsky-Willett. "This is the competitive team we were
expecting all along."
PSU is back in action Wednesday with a visit to Saint Michael's
College (3:30 p.m.)
