CORTLAND, N.Y. - Four different players scored
goals Saturday afternoon to lead the SUNY Cortland men's hockey
team to a 4-1 victory over Plymouth State University in the second
game of a weekend series at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons won their
fifth consecutive game and evened their record at 8-8-1 on the
season, while the Panthers fell to 4-6-2.
Sophomore Patrick Palmisano (Ann Arbor, Mich.) led Cortland with a
goal and two assists. Freshman Jarrett Gold (East Setauket, N.Y.)
recorded a goal and an assist, and junior Mike Maier (Rochester,
N.Y.) and freshman Brent Fallon (Endicott, N.Y.) each added a goal.
Sophomore Dave Dufresne (Dracut, Mass.) scored the
Panthers' lone goal off assists from senior Bobby
Dashner (Hyde Park, Mass.) and sophomore Chris
Cantara (Pelham, N.H.)
Cortland finished with a 45-18 advantage in shots on goal. PSU
freshman goalie Kevin Crosby (Farmington, Conn.)
registered 41 saves, while junior Mike Mistretta (Buffalo, N.Y.)
made 17 saves in the Cortland goal to raise his season record to
7-5-1.
Fallon gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at 15:23 of the opening
period with a power-play goal. Gold then notched his ninth of the
season and seventh in the last four games at 17:57 when he
deflected junior Mike Egan's (Smithtown, N.Y.) shot from the point
past Crosby, also on the power play.
The Panthers cut the margin to 2-1 at 5:02 of the second period
when Dufresne knocked in a loose puck in front with the man
advantage.
Cortland completed the scoring with a pair of goals 80 seconds
apart midway through the second period. Palmisano scored on a high
wrist shot from the left side at 9:34 and Maier found the open side
of the net at 10:54.
PSU plays another non-conference road game Tuesday with a visit to
New England College (7:00 p.m.) Cortland plays its seventh
straight home game Tuesday against SUNY Morrisville (7:00 p.m.)
