WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Freshman Shannon Hakes
(Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeanna Dippel (Mechanicsburg, Pa.)
scored two goals apiece Saturday afternoon to lead SUNY Cortland to
an 8-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference
women's ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Red Dragons took a 3-0 lead in the first period, made it 4-0
with a goal with two seconds remaining in the middle frame, and
poured it on in the third period with four unanswered goals.
Cortland improves to 3-7-3 overall, while PSU drops to 0-9-0.
Dippel finished with two goals and one assist to lead the visitors,
while senior Erin Fleury (Glans Falls, N.Y.) and junior Heather
Crowley (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) each contributed a goal and two
assists. Sophomore Maggie Henty (Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in
with a goal and an assist, and junior Maggie Welker (Rochester,
N.Y.) also scored for Cortland.
Freshman Briana Bartlett (Rome, N.Y.) needed to make only nine
saves for Cortland to post her first career shutout. PSU
junior goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.)
made 48 saves before giving way to freshman Lauren
Bonanni (Ridgefield, Conn.), who made 11 saves over the
final 11 minutes.
PSU gets right back into action Sunday with an ECAC East game at
Holy Cross (2:00 p.m.), while Cortland returns home to host Utica
College in an ECAC West game on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.)
