PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Little East Conference champion
Keene State College won 15 of the 16 events and set four pool
records Wednesday evening en route to a 170-94 victory over
Plymouth State University in a women's swimming and diving meet at
the PSU Natatorium.
The Owls remain undefeated in dual meets this year at 6-0, while
the Panthers fall to 1-5. Keene State has defeated Plymouth
State in all 10 meets since moving to Division III in 1997-98.
Sophomore Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, Mass.) kept the
Owls from winning every event, as she touched first for PSU in the
50-yard backstroke in 30.88 seconds.
Five individuals were double-winners for the Owls, led by sophomore
Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H./West) and freshman Jessica Laidley
(Brockton, Mass.), who also set individual pool records.
Foster won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.42 and the 500-yard free
in record-time 5:23.60, while Laidley captured the 100-yard
butterfly in 1:07.84 and the 400-yard individual medley in
record-time of 5:04.77.
The other double winners for the Owls were sophomore Alea Paddock
(Newbury, N.H.) in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.98 seconds) and the
100-yard breaststroke (1:11.58), sophomore Kristine Trutor (Holden,
Mass.) in the 50-yard butterfly (27.94 seconds) and the 100-yard
backstroke (1:02.09), and sophomore Chelsea Peruccio (Glastonbury,
Conn.) in the one-meter and three-meter diving (202.45 and 184.70,
respectively).
Single winners for Keene State included senior Holly Lamport
(Londonderry, N.H.) in the 1000-yard free (11:55.88), freshman
Rachel Mondello (Stoneham, Mass.) in the 50-yard free (25.60
seconds), and senior Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.) in the
100-yard free (56.02 seconds).
The Owls also opened and closed the meet with pool records in the
two relay events. The team of Yankowski, Paddock, Trutor and
Mondello won the 200-medley relay in a record 1:55.87, while the
foursome of junior Katie Allenson (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Foster,
Trutor and Yankowski touched the wall first in the 400-yard
freestyle relay in record-time of 3:54.54.
Plymouth State returns to the pool on Saturday with a 1:00 pm. meet
at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn., while the Owls
return home to host Eastern Connecticut and Husson College in a
tri-meet on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
