RUTLAND, Vt. - Junior goaltender Kalla Robb
(Manchester, N.H.) recorded her first career shutout Saturday night
as Castleton State College defeated Plymouth State University, 5-0,
in an ECAC East women's ice hockey game.
Sophomore Maryanne Diehm (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) put the Spartans up
1-0 with 30 seconds left in the first period. Junior Kayla
Twigge (Almonte, Ont.) scored the first of two goals in the second
to make it 2-0 in favor of the Spartans.
PSU goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) did
her best to give the Panthers a chance to get back in the game but
the Spartan offensive was too much. Castleton netted three
goals in the third, as sophomore Brittany Pressey (Woodbirdge,
Va.), freshman Kate Gray (Northfield, Vt.), and Twigge all put the
puck past DeLorie to finish the scoring.
Robb finished the shutout with 23 stops for the Spartans.
DeLorie stopped an amazing 69 of 74, a .932 save percentage.
The Spartans improve to 5-7-3 overall (4-4-3 in conference play),
and they host SUNY-Oswego Sunday for a 3:00 non-conference game.
Plymouth State is off until Friday when it hosts St. Anselm
for an ECAC East game at 6:00 p.m. at Waterville Valley.
