BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior Jordan Fliegel
(Cambridge, Mass.) scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds
Sunday afternoon to lead the Polar Bear men's basketball team to a
78-55 non-conference victory over Plymouth State University.
Bowdoin improves to 9-2 this season while the Panthers drop to 3-8.
After Plymouth State took a 7-5 lead five minutes into the contest,
Fliegel scored the next seven points of the game to key an 11-2
Bowdoin spurt. The Polar Bears scored the final six points of the
period to take a 35-21 lead at the break.
The Panthers got to within 12 points with 15:26 to play in the
second half, but Bowdoin quickly answered with a decisive 13-3 run.
The Polar Bears' 23-point margin of victory was their largest lead
of the game.
In just the second start of his career, Bowdoin sophomore Paul
Sellew (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored a career-high 16 points on 5-7
shooting from the field. Kyle Jackson (Acton, Mass.) tossed in 16
points while Andrew Sargeantson (New Canaan, Conn.) collected 12
points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Plymouth State was led by 13 points from junior Ben
Huntington (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton) and 10 from
freshman Ian Dempsey (Andover, Mass.)
Bowdoin continued its recent hot-shooting streak, connecting
on 63% of their first-half shots and 58% for the game. The Polar
Bears also out-rebounded the Panthers 35-21.
PSU returns to the state of Maine for its next contest, visiting
UMaine Farmington for a non-conference affair on Thursday (5:00
p.m.)
