WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Dimitrios
Kapotis (Woodsville, N.H.) notched two goals while senior
Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H.) recorded a goal
and two assists Wednesday afternoon to help Plymouth State
University shut out Worcester State College, 6-0, in non conference
men's soccer action at Coughlin Field.
The Panthers have won two in a row to improve to 4-5 while the
Lancers slip to 4-4-2.
Freshman Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) started the
scoring in the 11th minute for the Plymouth State when he hit home
a pass from Mehmedovic. Sophomore Stephan Welch
(Tokyo, Japan) and Kapotis extended the lead to 3-0 with unassisted
tallies in the 22nd and 37th minute, respectively.
After both teams came back onto the field following the
intermission, Mehmedovic scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd and
had a hand in dishing out Adam Gove's (Newton,
N.H.) first marker of the season in the 74th minute. Kapotis capped
off his impressive day with this second goal of the game and
team-leading sixth this year in the 86th on a feed from sophomore
Tommy Schrey (Munich, Germany).
Plymouth State finished the game leading in both shots (21-9) and
corners (2-1).
Senior keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) earned
his first shutout of the season after he made two stops between the
pipes for the Panthers. Sophomore classmates Daniel
Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) and Evan Wilga
(Dudley, Mass.) each shared equal playing time in the net for the
Lancers.
Both teams will play conference games on Saturday. Worcester State
will embark on a four-game road trip starting with a MASAC match
against Framingham State while Plymouth State will host Little East
foe Southern Maine at 4:30 p.m. at Panther Field.
