SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Juniors
Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) and Carly
Newton (Centerville, Mass.) combined to make 32 kills
Friday evening to lead the Plymouth State University women's
volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Westfield State College on the
first day of the Tom Hay Invitational, hosted by Springfield
College.
Badeau made 18 kills, with no attack errors, while Newton recorded
14 kills with just one attack error. They helped the Panthers
get back on the winning track with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 decision,
improving the team record to 12-6 on the season.
Springfield recorded a pair of wins over Westfield State and Roger
Williams, while Roger Williams also defeated Western New England
College.
The round-robin tournament continues on Saturday. PSU will
face Roger Williams at 9:00 a.m. and Western New England at 12:30
p.m., and wrap things up with a 3:00 p.m. match against
Springfield.
